Sunday, October 4th, the Downtown Westfield Corporation hosted its Fall Foodie Stroll, where over 20 Downtown Westfield restaurants offered sample sizes of some of their most delicious dishes and cocktails to nearly 400 participants. The sold-out event attracted people from 23 municipalities covering Westfield to New York City, and was very successful in showcasing Westfield’s many dining options. Proceeds from wristband sales were donated to William Sonoma’s No Kid Hungry Charity, which works to “end child hunger in America by ensuring that all children get the healthy food they need every day to thrive, and No Kid Hungry pledged to spend the funds raised locally in Union County.”
With nearly 1 in 6 restaurants around the country closed due to COVID-19, the push to support small businesses has never been more important. Says Patricia Caminos, owner of Ono Bowls, “The importance of shopping small is not just for the business but for the employees as well. Our business is a safe place for our kids who work here. By supporting us you’re helping us support them, and in turn helping the community.”
Restaurants offered tasty seasonal dishes like pumpkin spice lattes and autumn red sangrias, bite size plates of spicy tuna rolls and coconut shrimp, homemade guacamole and burritos, and so much more. “The Downtown Westfield Fall Foodie Stroll highlighted tasty specialties throughout downtown Westfield’s diverse eateries,” explained Downtown Westfield Executive Director Bob Zuckerman. “We saw hundreds of families, couples and friends sampling some of the best of downtown Westfield’s delicious offerings — and we hope they come back soon to try out the new dishes they discovered.”
