Chaplain Keith Gibbons
Deacon Keith Gibbons was appointed to the position of Police Chaplain by Resolution of the Town Council and was sworn into his position by Mayor Michelle W. Brindle on February 12, 2019.
Chaplain Deacon Gibbons serves at the sole direction and discretion of the Chief of Police. His uniform bears the rank insignia and embellishments of a Deputy Chief of Police – a gold eagle and three (3) gold braid stripes on his sleeves. To further serve our Department and community he has completed several trainings. Police Chaplain Training Program, Disaster Response Crisis Counselor, Bereavement Facilitator and Master Resiliency Training Officer with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Chaplain Deacon Gibbons was Ordained as a Permanent Deacon in 2005 and serves the faith community of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church and their Mission. Baptisms, weddings, funerals and many other ministries fill his time.
Chaplain Deacon Gibbons is member of the Westfield Ministerium and is humbled to collaborate with outstanding faith leaders from many of our houses of worship. Together they strive to bring comfort and aid to our community needs and peaceful understanding to issues of local, national and international importance.
Chaplain Deacon Gibbons a proud lifelong resident of Westfield, graduate of Westfield High School class of ’73, Kean University and happily married to Teresa (Avis) class of ’76. Their five children are also WHS graduates, Terri ‘01, Kelly ‘03, Kyle ‘07, Gus ‘08, Luke ‘12. They too, have taken on lives of service that include teaching, coaching, counseling, police officer and firefighter.
Chaplain Deacon Gibbons is a Trustee of the Westfield Food Pantry and helping to meet the growing needs of our less fortunate brothers and sisters in these unprecedented times. He has been honored to serve as Grand Knight of Monsignor Henry Watterson K of C, Host Family for Project Children Ireland, Athletic Director of Holy Trinity School, Sons of the American Legion and coordinated with local charities and businesses to design, build and dedicate the Westfield Vietnam Memorial.
