Mission
Statement
Since its founding in 1969, the Westfield
Historical Society has pledged itself to preserving, interpreting and
encouraging community interest in the history of Westfield.
The threefold purpose of the Society, as
provided by its Constitution is:
- to
encourage a community of interest in matters of historical significance to
the Town of Westfield,
- to
collect and preserve items, documents and artifacts on Westfield history,
- to
instill pride in our municipal heritage through educational means.
We pursue these goals in many ways:
- building
and maintaining a museum and archives on Westfield history,
- conducting
public programs on historical subjects,
- supporting
the preservation of Westfield's unique historical and architectural heritage,
- developing
educational programs for Westfield students and the adult community,
- taping
interviews with longtime residents, and
- supporting the programs of the Miller-Cory House Museum.
The circa 1740 Miller-Cory House was acquired
by the Society in 1971. It is operated as a "living Museum" and is
registered as a national, state and municipal historic site.
