The vision of the Downtown Westfield Corporation (DWC) is for Westfield, NJ to be a preferred destination where people want to live, work, and visit.

 

 

Mission

 

The Downtown Westfield Corporation, a New Jersey Main Street Community, is dedicated to promoting Downtown Westfield as a preferred destination.  The DWC is committed to strengthening the downtown Special Improvement District as the center of community life.  This includes improving the District’s economic viability by supporting existing businesses and encouraging the establishment of new enterprises and cultural activities that complement existing stores and services.

 

The DWC will focus on making Downtown Westfield a safer, cleaner and more attractive pedestrian environment, with adequate public parking in order to serve the needs of local residents and attract new shoppers and visitors from throughout the region.  It is also the goal of the DWC to preserve the rich architectural legacy of the downtown area. 

 

 

Goals and Objectives

 

A)      Enhance the appearance and safety of downtown Westfield

B)      Promote/Enhance the image of downtown Westfield

C)      Leverage and enhance partnerships to improve the downtown

D)      Receive recognition for the work of DWC and the town of Westfield

 

 

Detailed Goals and Objectives:

 

A)     Enhance the appearance and safety of downtown Westfield

·         Implementation of the Downtown Improvement Plan

·         Implementation of parking improvement plans

·         Implementation of Pedestrian safety measures (signage, banners, streetscape improvements, coordination with traffic/signalization projects, etc.)

·         Continued enhancement of Facade improvement/historic preservation program

·         complete a review of the facade improvement program for guidelines, funding caps,  etc.

·         institute an education campaign of the facade improvement program and services

·         issue eligible grants which are recommended by the Design Committee and approved by the Board

·         Ensure that trash, recycling and ongoing maintenance measures are implemented and maintained

·         Implementation of other streetscape improvements (benches, trash cans, newspaper rack coordination, kiosks, banners, trees, bus shelters, bike racks, etc.)

 

B) Promote/Enhance the image of downtown Westfield

Business as Usual:

·         Attract and retain businesses

·         Leverage and seek economic development opportunities

·         Update, maintain, and promote the business, shopping and restaurant directories

·         Create and distribute newsletter:  Talk of the Town

·         Create and manage bi-annual Destination Westfield publication

·         Create and distribute DWC Annual Report

·         Provide technical support for businesses/prospective businesses

·         Marketing and coordinated image advertising for Westfield

 

Projects:

·         Develop communications and public relations plans

·         Leverage TV36 opportunities

·         Create and enhance the appearance and functionality of the website: WestfieldToday.com

·         Apply for applicable local, state or federal grants

·         Leverage and update information in database tool, and provide a tie-in to land use ordinance (add additional information such as employee counts and restaurant seating).

·         Improve downtown nightlife and promotional entertainment.

·         Continued implementation of streetscape projects.

 

Promotions:

·         Develop comprehensive promotions strategy:

·         enhance promotions that fully leverage existing and prospective businesses and services

·         institute goals and measures to monitor effectiveness of promotions

 

 

C) Leverage and enhance partnerships to improve the downtown

·         Enhance relationships with:

·         Town government

·         Property owners, business owners and operators

·         Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce

·         Union County Economic Development

·         Main Street - state and national

·         Historic preservation

·         Other community groups

·         Media

 

·         Finalize plan of coordination with Town and update annually

·         Facilitate a customer friendly and timely permitting and inspections process

 

D)    Receive recognition for the work of DWC and for the town of Westfield

·         Apply for the annual Main Street Award Application

·         Leverage media relationships and opportunities for recognition

·         Partner with local, state and national organizations for historic preservation and business development
