Duke’s Deli & Convenience in Westfield Celebrates Grand Opening

Duke’s Deli & Convenience in Westfield Celebrates Grand Opening

Duke’s Deli, a shop with a long history in Westfield, reopened recently under new owners Asad and Sofia Hussain as Duke's Deli & Convenience. The couple, with staff and their family, celebrated Saturday with free tastings of Indian and Pakistani food and a ribbon cutting with Mayor Andy Skibitsky, representatives of the Downtown Westfield Corporation and members of the Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

The original Duke’s Deli was a Westfield staple, known for its sub sandwiches. That restaurant closed more than 10 years ago and has since been both a pasta bar and a bakery. Duke’s was resurrected in the same spot, 339 South Avenue West (across from the train station) by former Duke’s employee Dominic DeStefanis in 2015.

Mayor Optimistic About Downtown Westfield in State of the Town Address

Mayor Optimistic About Downtown Westfield in State of the Town Address

During his annual state of the town address Tuesday night, Mayor Andy Skibitsky spoke optimistically about the future of Downtown Westfield and confronting the challenges it faces and provided an update on the Downtown Task Force initiative.

"Yes, there are more storefront vacancies than we are accustomed to, and the town will do all that it can to address any conditions within its control, but keep in mind that we are building on a very strong foundation and successful heritage," Skibitsky said. "There are far more strengths and positives than there are weaknesses and negatives. It may take a little time, but I am confident that we will emerge from this readjustment period just as strong, if not stronger than ever."
