Passing the Baton for the Wednesday Morning Strings NJWA Ensemble

For the past 25 years, since moving the New Jersey Workshop for the Arts Music Studio into Westfield, Dr. Ted Schlosberg, Founder/Director, has conducted the NJWA Wednesday Morning Strings Ensemble in performances in Central Jersey.

This winter session, he is passing the baton to Janet Lyman, who is on the faculty at the Music Studio and also directs the NJWA Summer Symphony.

Ms. Lyman holds both a B.M. in Violin and an M. M. Ed. in Music Education from the Manhattan School of Music. She also founded and conducted the Tenafly Symphony Orchestra and is the Director of Music at Zion Lutheran Church in Clark. Valentine Gifts for Music Lovers

With the approach of Valentine’s Day, many people try to select gifts that will be special for the people they are honoring.  Many choose candy hearts, jewelry or items that the recipient would appreciate.

The New Jersey Workshop for the Arts Music Studio gives the donor a unique opportunity if the recipient is involved in music. Whether the person for whom you are showing your love and respect is a child who has recently shown an interest in music, a teenager who has become very appreciative of music, or an adult who has been involved in music for years, the Music Studio may have an item which will please that person.

Dine Out Westfield, Downtown Westfield's Annual Prix Fixe Culinary Event, is Underway (February 25 - March 8) with Fresh New Options

Dine Out Westfield, Downtown Westfield's Annual Prix Fixe Culinary Event, is Underway (February 25 - March 8) with Fresh New Options

Attention foodies! This year Dine Out Westfield will be held Sunday, February 25 - Thursday, March 8, 2018.

The Downtown Westfield Corporation (DWC) sponsors Dine Out Westfield to celebrate local dining at affordable prices. Participating restaurants offer two or more course prix fixe menus for lunch and/or dinner. Participating restaurants' menus will be published in advance (when available) for review before making a reservation. This event spans two weeks, with Friday and Saturday excluded. Tax, gratuity and beverages are not included.

Dine Out Westfield is an annual culinary event with various wine and liquor options. Participating restaurants with liquor licenses will be making recommendations for wines, beers and cocktails along with their food menus. Several wineries sell wines by the bottle in a handful of our restaurants. Local liquor stores NosVino and The Liquor Basket are making wine recommendations for other BYOB restaurants and are offering discounts for sales by the bottle. NosVino will even deliver wine bottles tableside to those who order in advance!

This event offers diners great deals on tasty prix fixe lunch and dinner menus with unique and varied offerings. Prices and number of courses vary by restaurant, so diners are encouraged to browse the list and find one that fits their appetite and budget before calling the restaurant directly for reservations.

Many thanks to Mayor Brindle's Media Council for creating the wonderful Dine Out Westfield video!

See the list of participating restaurants and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) below. Don't forget to post your dining photos on Instagram #dineoutwestfield. Bon Appetit!

Olive Oil is Good for your Heart

Did you know that February is National Heart Health Month? Introducing Olive Oil into your diet is one of the best and easiest things that you can do for your heart? Olive oil is high in a type of fat known as monounsaturated fat, according to the Mayo Clinic. MUFAs, as they're commonly called, can help lower your cholesterol and control insulin levels in the body. Unfortunately, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (N.I.H.), Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year, killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds.  Fortunately, we can change that because 80 percent of cardiac and stroke events may be prevented with education and action.

Next Step in Women’s Empowerment – Taking a Stand With Your Finances

Women are speaking up more and more these days.  Speaking up for what they believe in….equal opportunities, equal pay, a safe work environment, having their voices heard in political matters, and their overall right to be happy.

As a Financial Advisor, I meet many women who have never had a meaningful role in their family’s financial decisions.  These women, many of whom are recently widowed or divorced, were never part of the process of managing their investment portfolio or an annual financial review.  Due to their immediate circumstances, they are now obligated to begin learning how to manage their finances at the most inopportune time.
