AddamsFest

‘AddamsFest’, Celebrating Westfield Native Charles Addams and His Creations, is coming to Westfield October 26-28

It’s creepy and it’s kooky. It’s taking over Westfield for 3 days from October 26 to 28, 2018. AddamsFest, a town-wide celebration honoring Westfield NJ native Charles Addams and his penchant for the macabre, will prove to be the destination event of the season with family-friendly events, lectures, exhibits, and film screenings.

Born in 1912 and raised in Westfield, Charles Addams was one of the country’s premier cartoonists, with his work prominently featured in The New Yorker. His most successful creation, The Addams Family, was inspired by his surroundings in Westfield. The characters that began as illustrations grew into a television series, a live action movie franchise, a Broadway musical, and a highly anticipated Addams Family animated movie (coming in late 2019). What better place to honor Addams’ talent and creativity than the town where he grew up? Stay tuned in the coming months as the “all-together ooky” events continue to unfold at www.addamsfest.com.

Some festival highlights will include:

  • Family-friendly events such as trunk-or-treating and an Addams Family Fun Zone
  • Lectures and exhibits featuring Charles Addams’ work spanning his career at The New Yorker and as the creator of The Addams Family
  • Screenings of the original Addams Familymovie and The Rocky Horror Picture Showat Westfield’s New Vision Rialto Theater
  • Morticia’s Masquerade Ball in Westfield’s James Ward Mansion
  • Special food and beverage events throughout Westfield’s restaurants

”AddamsFest will be an exciting celebration of a great local talent and the town that inspired his work,” said Shelley Brindle, Mayor of Westfield. “The festival promises to be a signature destination event that celebrates our unique and rich history while delivering on our commitment to increase community engagement and support our downtown businesses.” If successful, it could become an annual event that grows each year.
